It is good to involve or take your child to a place where he/she can learn an handwork at his tender age, as this will make him to be serious, totally independent after he have learn to an extent, help fix issue of future unemployment after he graduated and there are no jobs.
However, it is said to be a good thing but, if you as the parent select a wrong handwork or force them into learning an handwork that is not from their mind will practically be of waste of effort, time and other resources. So in order to avoid or not to fall a victim of the above, i suggest you go through this post carefully.

What is the meaning of handwork
According to Wiktionary an handwork is to work (materials) by hand without the use of machine. Examples of  handwork to learn are:

  • Mobile phone repair
  • Shoes, belts and bags making
  • Beads making
  • Plaiting of hair

Above are some common handwork that most children will love to learn at their tender age. Now let me discuss about "Common mistakes parent makes when they want their child to learn an handwork".

Common mistakes parent makes when they want their child to learn handwork

  1. Forcing an handwork to a child without asking for his opinion: This is a mistake many parents have been making which is not right, learning an  handwork should come from the child heart not from is parent. A parent work is to guide, protect, lead and not to impose forcefully against the wish of their children. Yes you may succeed in forcing them to learn any handwork you instructed. But i guarantee you they won't know it. And even if they do, they won't find pleasure in doing it.

  2. Taking a child to a wrong place to learn: Environment matters a lot while learning an handwork. If the environment is bad it will surely reflect in your child learning performance. Don't take your child to anyhow place to learn handwork just because the boss offered you free tickets or because you want them to learn something by all means.

  3. Taking a child to a boss that knows nothing: It is crystal clear that not everybody that open a shop is a boss that knows something, some boss did not learn before opening a shop, all they do is "try a luck and logic" to do things. If you take your child to such place then you have made a mistake, because your child won't learn anything.

  4. Age: They are certain age your child as to reach before he should be taken to a place where he can learn an handwork, don't take your child to learn an handwork when the time to learn as not yet reach. I heard some parents saying it is good to take a child to a place where he can start learning an handwork at an early stage of is life. Oh yes it is good but it totally wrong, imagine a child of 5 years learning how to fixed a car. To me he won't learn anything instead he will become a messenger running errands.

What parents should do if they want their child to learn an handwork and be successful in it

  1. Ask your child which handwork he/she his interested in learning: Don't force an handwork to your children to learn just because you find other children doing it and you love their performance. Yes you can envy them. But, your child opinion about learning a particular handwork should come first before taking him to a place where he can learn.

  2. Ask your child if he have a place in his mind to learn an handwork and make sure you gather enough information about the place before going with him: This is also important while learning an handwork. A preferred place that comes from your child mind will be okay than a place you have in your own mind as the parent. Everyone have what he/she look up to as a mentor, it might be because of a friend pattern of living that triggered your child to want to learn a particular handwork. If really it a friend then am very sure he will likely want to be in the same place he see is friend learning from. So always endeavor to ask your child if he had a place he would love to go and learn is handwork from, before taking him to the place you have in your mind if his answer is "No". And if his answer is "Yes", go to the place and survey the environment if it good for your child health, check if the boss is someone you can entrust your child to, check if it a place he can learn faster. If it okay then you can go ahead and discuss with the boss on how much you will pay for your child to learn.

  3. Make sure you monitor his performance: A child choose an handwork to learn, it the work of a parent to supervise or monitor his performances. If you see your child not performing well in learning a particular handwork it your work as a parent to sit your child down and discuss with him about his poor performances. Don't insult or talk to him anyhow because he is the one that choose "Where" and "What" to learn, just be at peace with him and ask calmly. If a need for change of environment arises please do it for his sake and if he wants to switch to a different handwork please change it for him.

  4. Get a personal tools for him at home: Practice makes perfect, get needed tools for your child to be practicing with it at home. This can boost is learning performance overtime and leave your child to learn more from is boss before asking for his freedom.
